The winter season brings many wonderful things. Everything from sitting in front of the fireplace with a mug of hot cocoa to building a snow fort with the children in the front yard. However, some of the things that winter brings aren’t so pleasant. The frigid weather can cause many problems for homeowners, one of those problems being frozen pipes that burst and flood your home. The best way to practice Flood Prevention from frozen pipes is to prevent them from freezing to begin with.

Read on for a few tips for Flood Prevention that will help you stop your home from flooding this winter season.

The first thing you will want to do is disconnect outside water hoses. Water can build up in these hoses and travel throughout the pipes under your home. They will freeze and once they start to melt, the pressure will burst the pipes causing you all manner of problems that you don’t need to have to deal with.

Make sure that you inspect all of your outside faucets for leaks and repair them right away. If you know that the cold snap is coming, you should inspect the faucets even if you inspected them during the last frigid snap. It is better to be safe than to wake up the next morning to frozen pipes and the problems that ensue when the weather warms up and the ice starts to melt.

If your home has a valve on the inside that will work to shut off the outside faucets then it is a good idea to go ahead and shut the supply off to them. This way you don’t have to worry about missing a leaky faucet and ending up with a mess after all of your hard work.

You need to leave water dripping overnight on the nights that the temperature is going to drop below freezing.

These are just a few of the tips that you should follow to ensure that your pipes don’t freeze, leaving you with a huge mess.
