Grooming is one of the most overlooked aspects of pet ownership when owners are leaving their pets at Ft. Lauderdale dog boarding facilities. While leaving your Great Dane, Miniature Pinscher or Whippet at a boarding facility that does not groom your pets may not be ideal, a good bath when they get home will often get rid of any residue that they may have. Other breeds, however, such as a Bichon Frise, Maltese or Yorkshire Terrier require daily grooming, particularly if they have show coats, and we won’t get started on the care Poodles require.

So what are your options? You can always go the route of shaving your dog. This creates a no-hassle coat, although in some breeds this may cause an issue with waterproofing and their ability to keep warm in the winter, such as Huskies and Malamutes. The other option is to find a Ft. Lauderdale dog boarding facility that offers grooming.

It is important that if your dog is to be groomed, whether it is a simple hand grooming or the works, that you let the kennel know what your dog is familiar with. Issues that should be noted to the groomer include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. How often does your dog require grooming?
2. Does your dog require special handling?
3. Is your dog familiar with a grooming table?
4. What grooming tools are used on your dog regularly? You may need to ask your regular groomer about this.
5. Does your dog have any allergies or sensitivities?
6. What is the kennel’s stance on sedation? Does this conflict with yours?

Remember that not all dog boarding facilities in Ft. Lauderdale that offer grooming have the same standards. Some kennels may define grooming as simply brushing your dog every few days or as needed. Other kennels will have a dedicated groomer that will not only brush your dog but also ensure they are bathed, their coat is appropriately trimmed, nails filed down and that their ears are cleaned. Often these kennels do charge an additional fee for some of these extended services; however, it relieves you of the task of finding a groomer to take care of these needs and saves your dog from going without for the duration of their stay.
