A log splitter is a tool that uses either a saw bench or chainsaw to split logs into half, creating smaller, thinner pieces of wood. Usually, the wood is cut into thick chunks or logs beforehand, and then the machine cuts them into half-moons or smaller pieces, creating narrower chunks of wood. While it is possible to work with wood without this machine, it certainly makes things easier.
Here are a few situations when getting this tool makes sense.

For Personal Use

A log splitter is a good tool to have, not just if you’re a professional landscaper or working in a sawmill. If you do a lot of work with wood at home, it can help you get the job done faster.

For example, if you regularly need to chop firewood, having this tool on hand is the best way to make the process more efficient. It is a lot faster to split logs using a machine rather than by hand. Plus, you need to be able to split big pieces of wood for it to fit in your stove or fireplace.

In a Sawmill

When processing wood industrially, for example in a sawmill, a log splitter is essential. You cannot process industrial amounts of wood by hand. Even a small one will improve your work.

If you already have a splitter, make sure that you maintain it properly. If it stops working properly or the blade isn’t sharp anymore, then it’s time to look for a replacement.
