ADHD Alternative Medicines

Adderall is a medicine usually associated with the treatment of ADHD. Containing dextroamphetamine and amphetamine it is designed to help the nervous system and is also used in the treatment of narcolepsy. It is not possible to purchase Adderall over the counter, because it is generally prescribed by your doctor if you have been diagnosed with ADHD or narcolepsy. However, there are some more natural alternatives that can be purchased over the counter and if you prefer those you can talk to your local pharmacist or doctor to find out the best solutions.

Many people prefer the alternatives because they contain more natural ingredients and Adderall can be addictive. There are certain medical conditions that make it unsafe to take Adderall, namely glaucoma, Tourette’s syndrome, heart attack history or heart disease. If you experience high levels of anxiety or agitation you should probably not take Adderall, either and any hardening of the arteries can also be affected by taking Adderall.

Dosage and Directions

Only take the prescribed dose that your doctor gives you. If you do happen to forget to take a dose, just take on at the earliest convenience and then return to your normal routine as soon as possible. If you skip a whole day, just take the recommended dose at the next opportunity and do not, under any circumstances take more than you should. There is no need to double to the dose to compensate for the loss of the previous day.

Owing the fact that Adderall can be highly addictive it always best to consult your doctor about any medication they intend to prescribe for your condition. Pregnant women or women who may be planning to get pregnant should also stay away from Adderall because it can actually be passed into the breast milk. This applies only to women who intend to breast feed, but again, consult your primary care physician before taking it.

Because Adderall is a stimulant you will probably be advised to take it in the mornings. However, as with many medications you might also be advised to refrain from driving in case it makes you dozy. Also, vitamin C can inhibit your body’s ability to absorb the ingredients of Adderall, so while taking it stay away from drinks or fruits that contain vitamin C.
