The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) reports that using certain types of glasses and eye coverings will not protect you from dangerous rays emanating from the sun during a solar eclipse. These devices that will not work for this purpose include medical x-ray film with images, color film, sunglasses, or smoked glasses. If you view the eclipse with one of these items, you could sustain serious damage to your eyes. Instead, you need to use properly designed eclipse viewing glasses to safely view the next eclipse event.
