For older homes in need of some type of cooling system, the answer may be a mini air conditioning system. This type of system in easy to install and is effective in cooling the home more efficiently and in a cost-effective manner. It is an energy-efficient way to stay comfortable during the hot summer months.

Benefits
Mini air conditioning is much easier to install than a central heating and air system. Although it does have noisy components, these are placed outside, which means that the inside of the home is kept quiet. This efficient system allows you more control than an ordinary air conditioning system. You can use the zoned heating and cooling to add heat to certain areas and cool down others. The result is added comfort and decreased energy costs. This type of ductless system is just as effective as a central air conditioning system, but without the hassle of ductwork.

Disadvantages
Mini air conditioning is a more expensive and more permanent cooling method than a window-mounted or portable air conditioning system. Therefore, it’s not recommended if you’re looking for a temporary solution. In addition, it’s not an easy process to install it. It requires the skill and expertise of a qualified HVAC technician.

Choosing One for Your Home
Now that you are aware of the pros and cons of mini air conditioning, which system is best for your home? Just like central air conditioning units, you need to look at the BTUs and make a determination. The smallest size is 9,000 BTUs, which covers up to 350 square feet. A 12,000-BTU unit covers up to 500 square feet and 18,000 BTUs is good for up to 750 square feet. You can cover 1,000 square feet with 24,000 BTUs and up to 1.250 square feet with 30,000 BTUs. The largest size is 36,000 BTUs, which covers 1,500 square feet.
