Types of Drug Treatment Programs that are Currently Available

When you begin to look for an Addiction Recovery Program, you should keep in mind that each person’s needs will be different. Generally speaking, the more intense and longer that the drug use has gone on, the more intense type of treatment you will require. No matter the length of the program in months or weeks, long term care and support will be crucial to ensure a full recovery. A quality treatment program will not just address the actual drug abuse, but it will also address any emotional pain or other life problems that may be contributing to the addiction.

Features to Look for in Substance Abuse Recovery Programs

When you begin to look for a substance abuse treatment program, you will likely see a number of different advertisements for various programs that offer great views and a tranquil setting. While these types of amenities are great, they also likely come with a large price tag. You need to try and focus on what is really important, which includes a facility with the proper licensing, the quality of care during the actual program, if they offer follow up services and the credentials of the service.

Overview of the Various Types of Treatment Programs

There are a number of different types of treatment programs available to choose from, each one being ideal for a particular type of person.

Residential Treatment

This requires that the person reside at the treatment facility while they undergo the treatment all day. This type of treatment will typically last between 30 and 90 days.

Partial Hospitalization

This is for individuals who will require an ongoing amount of monitoring, but have a living situation that is stable. This type of treatment program typically involves the person meeting at the hospital for a period of three to five days each week, for four to six hours each day.

IOP – Intensive Outpatient Program

This is not a treatment program that is “live-in,” but it will still require a significant commitment of time. An IOP typically meets at a minimum of three days each week for a period of two to four hours each day. The primary focus of this is prevention of relapse. These programs can be scheduled around school or work.

When you are aware of what is available, you will be able to make a more educated decision regarding the treatment program that is right for you.
