Getting What You Need from Your Makeup

Women know that when their makeup is applied correctly, it will enhance their appearance. Women wear makeup to hide imperfections and to play up the features of their face that they find most attractive. When it is all said and done, women want to appear, flawless. You will undoubtedly experience the total opposite when your makeup isn’t applied properly. You may look like something out of a freak show. Women want their makeup to look as natural as possible without looking overly made up. This can be the challenge for black women. There are so many variations of skin tones among women of color. However, it is possible to achieve that flawless look with a little forethought. Here are a few things that might help you get the look you are trying to accomplish.

Choosing Makeup for African American Women

If you are a black women or African American, selecting a basic foundation can be difficult. To make sure that you get complete coverage that will last, you have to select a foundation that will compliment your skin type and tone. Foundations are formulated for every skin type, oily, sensitive and dry. Make sure that you are clear as to exactly what skin type you have so that you purchase the appropriate foundation. If you are unsure about the shade of foundation you should buy, select several that are close to your skin color. Place a small amount along your jawline. The one that blends with your complexion best is the one you should purchase. If you are still unsure, ask someone which one they think looks closest to your skin tone. Once you have decided on a foundation you can move on to finding a concealer. Your concealer should be slightly lighter than your foundation. The concealer is used to cover darker areas of your skin or dark circles under your eyes, that foundation alone will not hide. If you about to select your eye shadow, go for deep, rich colors. Shades of purple and browns look best on women of color. You can apply one shade or up to three shades. Most women choose at least two colors over their eyelids. When doing so, make sure the lightest color is applied closest to your eyebrow and the darker shade just above your eyelashes. After applied, blend the colors together for a cohesive look. You can go for a basic black or brown eyeliner, however, if you want dramatic eyes, use a color liner. Eye liners are now available in a variety of colors.
